Alex Rodriguez Broke Into Spring Camp With The Seattle...

In 1994, an 18-year-old kid from Miami named Alex Rodriguez broke into spring camp with the Seattle Mariners in an attempt to make the team. After almost immediately stepping into a Major League baseball field he became a household name. Within two years, he was an All-Star. Within five, a regular 40-homer player. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the Hall of Fame discussion. On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the 41-year-old’s lack of playing time and declining production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A-Rod era entirely. And for A-Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child. I do want to be remembered as someone who was madly in love with the game of baseball, someone who loves it at every level, Rodriguez said. Someone who loves to learn it, play it, teach it, coach it. And also, I m going to be hopefully remembered as someone who tripped and fell a lot, but someone that kept getting up. Rodriguez has led a very controversial 22-year baseball career. His lowest moment being when he was infamously suspended for the entire 2014 season following the Biogenesis investigation. The longest suspension ever served in Major League Baseball history. But his story did not end there. In his 2015 campaign, in an attempt to redeem himself and earn back the love from the fans

Ethics And The International Professional Practices Framework

Introduction This report is going to explain the role of an auditor and their importance in the work force and what attracts me to the job and why I am interested in PwC and what I hope to gain from the scheme. What is Audit/Auditor? The Business Dictionary defines audit as â€Å"A systematic examination and verification of a firm’s books of account, transaction records, other relevant documents, and physical inspection of inventory by qualified accountants†. Auditors can be split into two different divisions, internal auditors and external auditors. They are to follow the Code of Ethics and the International Standards. The nature of the role is contained within the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF). The Charted institute of internal auditors states that the role of an internal auditor is to provide independent assurance that an organization’s risk management; governance and internal control processes are operating effectively. Internal auditors are obliged to provide an impartial and objective view. They are independent from the operations they evaluate and report to the senior managers and governors. Internal auditors deal with issues that are primarily essential to the survival of any organization. Internal auditors help companies succeed, through a combination of assurance and consulting. In comparison to external auditors, they look beyond financial risks and statements to consider wider issues such as the company’s reputation, growth. The difference between incidence and prevalence data Free Essays

Statistical data can enhance insights by establishing the relationship of events or factors to a population. However, the value and validity of these insights depends on the researchers’ skill in using data available for their research. Therefore there is a need to understand the distinctions and uses of these data to be able to develop insights regarding the population or set of information. We will write a custom essay sample on The difference between incidence and prevalence data or any similar topic only for you Order Now One example understands the difference between incidence and prevalence data. By understanding characteristics unique to each, researchers will be able to use them appropriately and effectively. Distinctions Incidence refers to the probability that an individual will be fall under a constraint within a given period of time (Casella Berger, 2001). In epidemiology, this refers to the chances that an individual will contract a specific in a particular time period. The rate of incidence is computed as a factor of the population susceptible to the constraint. Prevalence, on the other hand is defined as the probability that a constraint given a population (McClave Sincich, 2006). Extending the definition to epidemiology, this refers to the likelihood of an individual in a population to acquire the disease. Its rate is derived from dividing the number of diagnosed cases over the total population. The distinction between the two sets of data is based on the time and population it refers to. Incidence has a time frame or range while prevalence only considers the current data or data at a specific time. With regards to population, incidence is measured based on a constraint, usually defined because of its vulnerability to the diseases, whereas prevalence considers the whole population. If prevalence data is diminished, it means that disease is being eradicated versus in incidence where diminishing values only indicate the degree by which medical interventions are able to treat the disease (Bertoni et al, 2004). Furthermore, prevalence is the cumulative measure of incidence as of the time period which can differ significantly from incidence values (Casella Berger, 2001). Uses Incidence data is often used when studying new and or short-term events. The data is independent from data gathered from other time periods, measuring only the newly diagnosed cases and does not consider populations who still have the condition or disease. As a measure of success in medical intervention, it measures the rate of success of treatments of the disease’s symptoms. They are often utilized when conditions being studied are curable or when symptoms can become absent or in studies periods of vulnerability for a disease (Bertoni et al, 2004). Thus, in the study of respiratory sensitization and allergy n due to reaction enzyme producing plant, incidence data was used because the focus of the study the significance of exposure and host factors to employee reactions (Larsen, 2007). Incidence rates will better measure this relationship since the production of the enzymes that produce the sensitivity is seasonal and the population is limited to the employees who are exposed to the plants. Prevalence data in contrast is used more for long-term studies. As mentioned, it is a cumulative measure and therefore considers new and old diagnoses. It is often used in chronic illnesses or conditions whose symptoms will always fall under the constraints characterized for it. There is a presumption of the continuance of the disease or condition and the date is used often in conjunction with periodic measures. Thus, in the measure of effectiveness of vaccination against Hepatitis A in north-eastern Italy, prevalence data were used because the concern was the success of the preventive measures for drug users in low prevalence areas: the measure is not among the population the cases that will be reported and the comparison of data is annually (Lugoboni et al, 2005). Prevalence studies will better develop insights to the success rate of the intervention, in this case vaccination against Hepatitis A, because vaccination implies that focus is on the non-occurrence of the condition and at the same time, the focus is not short-term. Existentialist hero Essay Example For Students

Existentialist hero Essay After Lucie and Charles get married, Cartons behavior declines and he is back to his old self. I know how well you have no tenderness in me and I shall sink lower. This shows Carton relies on alcohol to relieve his pain of knowing Lucie will never lover him nor marry him. It also shows that he is jealous of Charles and reminds himself he could have been just like him. Carton then decides to dedicate his life to protecting Lucie and her family, this is what you call spiritual love. This is shown when he quotes there is a man would give his life, to keep a life you love beside you. This shows you how dramatically Carton has changed; he now cares for people and is willing to risk his life for others. During the middle stages of the French revolution, the peasants of France flocked the streets of Paris and killed all the aristocrats, their servants and friends. In the process all the Evremends were killed except for one, Charles Darnay. Madame deFarge who deeply hates the Everamands because they brought her family to their deaths. She invents a plan to bring Charles back to France so they can execute him. Madame deFarge and her circle of friends capture Darnays old mentor and force him to write a letter that he is in grave danger and needs help as soon as possible. Charles, who is unaware of goings in France hastily returns to France, to find his old mentor dead. He is then put on trial for the sins of his ancestors. During the trial Dr Manette convinces the jury Charles in innocent, but Madame deFarge who has a strong influence on the jury convinces them Charles is guilty. Darnay is then sent to death within forty eight hours. Lucie and her family are in great despair, her father returns to his mental state of making shoes and Lucie doesnt know how she can life her live without Charles. Mr. Lorry who is a hard headed businessman, starts to weep, and Lucies maid is also deeply miserable. Sydney Carton, who cant bear to watch Lucie suffering, thinks of a plan and shares it with Mr. Lorry who is given strict instructions. Carton then goes to the prison where Charles is held and meets Barsad the spy. He bribes Barsad and convinces him to take him inside the prison, he does this with success. Inside the prison he meets with Charles and drugs him, Charles falls into a deep state of sleep while Carton dresses as Charles. When the warden comes in to check he decides its time Carton leaves, because Charles is asleep Barsad tells the warden he is drunk and they both carry Charles out of prison. From there Charles is taken back home in the morning where the carriage is set to leave France. And in place of Charles, Carton goes to the guillotine where he is ferociously killed. Why did Sydney do it? This is a difficult question as there are various answers to it, some right and some wrong. One of the main reason he sacrificed himself is because he wanted happiness for others and to gain their respect, especially Lucie and her family. I see lives for which I lay down my life, peaceful, useful, prosperous and happy. This shows he is prophetic as he is not imagining the future but seeing it. It also shows us he has now changed from what he was at the start from the novel, a nihilistic unloving man to a man who has found a reason to live and has found a meaning to life through love. .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .postImageUrl , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:hover , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:visited , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:active { border:0!important; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:active , .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004 .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uea2aaeef8ef2252caad6fbb1f3ed7004:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: "Everyday Use" EssayHe gives his life up, to make up for his previous bad acts. This is shown during his final moments of his life when he sees her with a child upon her bosom, who bears my name. This quotation enforces my point that he is prophetic and knows by sacrificing himself, others will be happy and that his name will live on and be respected by others for years to come in Lucies family. He also finally has a reason to his life, for which he has been searching all his life, this is what you call an existentialist hero. One other main reason he sacrifices himself is to find peace in his troubled life. This is shown after he is viciously killed and they said of him, about that city that night, that it was the peacefullest mans face ever beheld there. This shows he thinks what he did was right and that there is no need to look back, but into the future, which is his afterlife in which he now believes in. It also shows he thinks he will go to heaven; a place he thought never existed till he met Lucie.  The fourth reason I have, is that he gave his life to find a meaning in it. I see the lives I lay down my life, peaceful, useful, prosperous and happy He finds out at his meaning of life was to help Lucie and her family and in the process help him become a better man. This also strengthens my idea that he is an existentialist hero who has finally found a meaning to his life. In conclusion I think this novel was great, it showed us how the peasants in France were treated and how they gathered confidence to fight back, but brought the country to a reign of terror. It also showed me what the power of love could change someone and also a whole community. I have also learnt from Carton that its never too late to change. Towards the end of the novel Carton finally learns there is a meaning to life, love. Carton who at the start of the novel was a lonely, drunk and nihilistic man becomes a respected, loved and peaceful man during the last parts of the novel.

Advertising Appeals Essay Advertising appeals aim to influence the way consumers view themselves and how buying certain products can prove to be beneficial for them. The message conveyed through advertising appeals influences the purchasing decisions of consumers. Keep on reading to know the various different types of advertising appeals that can be seen in the media today. By Ashwini Ambekar | Friday, January 09, 2009 The most basic of human needs is the need for food, clothing and shelter. Special need for these necessities cannot be created with advertising. However there are certain other products that provide comfort in life and advertising aims to generate demand for these products. Advertising uses appeals as a way of persuading people to buy certain products. Advertising appeals are designed in a way so as to create a positive image of the individuals who use certain products. Advertising agencies and companies use different types of advertising appeals to influence the purchasing decisions of people. The most important types of advertising appeals include emotional and rational appeals. Emotional appeals are often effective for the youth while rational appeals work well for products directed towards the older generation. Here are just some of the various different kinds of advertising appeals seen in the media today: Emotional Appeal An emotional appeal is related to an individual’s psychological and social needs for purchasing certain products and services. Many consumers are emotionally motivated or driven to make certain purchases. Advertisers aim to cash in on the emotional appeal and this works particularly well where there is not much difference between multiple product brands and its offerings. Personal Appeal Some personal emotions that can drive individuals to purchase products include safety, fear, love, humor, joy, happiness, sentiment, stimulation, pride, self esteem, pleasure, comfort, ambition, nostalgia etc. 2. Social Appeal Social factors cause people to make purchases and include such aspects as recognition, respect, involvement, affiliation, rejection, acceptance, status and approval. 3. Fear Appeal Fear is also an important factor that can have incredible influence on individuals. Fear is often used to good effect in advertising and marketing campaigns of beauty and health products including insurance. Advertising experts indicate that using moderate levels of fear in advertising can prove to be effective. Humor Appeal Humor is an element that is used in around 30% of the advertisements. Humor can be an excellent tool to catch the viewer’s attention and help in achieving instant recall which can work well for the sale of the product. Humor can be used effectively when it is related to some benefit that the customer can derive without which the joke might overpower the message. Sex Appeal Sex and nudity have always sold well. Sexuality, sexual suggestiveness, over sexuality or sensuality raises curiosity of the audience and can result in strong feelings about the advertisement. It can also result in the product appearing interesting. However use of sex in types of advertising appeals can have a boomerang effect if it is not used carefully. It can interfere with the actual message of the advertisement and purpose of the product and can also cause low brand recall. If this is used then it should be an integral part of the product and should not seem vulgar. The shift should be towards sensuality. Music Appeal Music can be used as types of advertising appeals as it has a certain intrinsic value and can help in increasing the persuasiveness of the advertisement. It can also help capture attention and increase customer recall. Scarcity Appeal Scarcity appeals are based on limited supplies or limited time period for purchase of products and are often used while employing promotional tools including sweepstakes, contests etc. Rational Appeal Rational appeals as the name suggests aims to focus on the individual’s functional, utilitarian or practical needs for particular products and services. Such appeals emphasize the characteristics and features of the product and the service and how it would be beneficial to own or use the particular brand. Print media is particularly well suited for rational appeals and is often used with good success. It is also suited for business to business advertisers and for products that are complex and that need high degree of attention and involvement. Masculine Feminine Appeal Used in cosmetic or beauty products and also clothing. This type of appeal aims at creating the impression of the perfect person. The message is that the product will infuse the perfection or the stated qualities in you. Brand Appeal This appeal is directed towards people who are brand conscious and wish to choose particular products to make a brand statement. Snob Appeal This appeal is directed towards creating feeling of desire or envy for products that are termed top of the line or that have considerable qualities of luxury, elegance associated with them. Adventure Appeal This appeal is directed towards giving the impression that purchasing a product will change the individual’s life radically and fill it with fun, adventure and action. Less than Perfect Appeal Advertisements often try to influence people to make certain purchases by pointing out their inadequacies or making them feel less perfect and more dissatisfied with their present condition. These types of advertising appeals are used in cosmetic and health industries. Romance Appeal These advertisements display the attraction between the sexes. The appeal is used to signify that buying certain products will have   a positive impact on the opposite sex and improve your romantic or love life. Fragrances, utomobiles and other products use these types of advertising appeals Emotional Words/Sensitivity Appeal These advertisements are used to drive at and influence the sensitivities of consumers. Youth Appeal Advertisements that reflect youth giving aspects or ingredients of products use these types of appeals. Cosmetic products in particular make use of these appeals. Basic Computer construction essays

Basic Computer construction essays This report will tell you the 10 basic steps to constructing a high powered home computer in under 2 hours. Most people believe that you have to be a rocket scientist to build a computer. YOU DONT! It is very easy. The first thing you will need to do, is get the parts. MOtherboard, Processor, Video card, SOund card, DVD, CD-ROM, Monitor, RAM (SD-RAM) Case, speakers, DVD-EncoderCard, etc.. The next thing you will have to do, is set the jumpers on your motherboard, What this does, is set the amount of electricity that the motherboard will send to the CPU (processor). Different CPU's use different amounts of voltage. The newer CPU's use even less voltage. Most of the jumper setting's you will need are listed in the owners manual for the motherboard, or can be obtained from the dealer. Some motherboards dont even need to have the jumpers set, ITs done electronicly. These are called jumperless motherboard's. It will say weather or not it is a jumperless motherboard on the box or in the manual. Then the next thing you will need to do is install the CPU, By locating the ZIF socket. It is beije and square. It just drops into place and then all you have to do is flip the lever on the side and thats done. The next step, is installing the ram, The ram is usually 168 pin long, and will only fit into one slot ( out of 3 or 4 possible ) on the board. It will only go in one way so their is no putting it in backward. Then after you install the ram, you have to place the motherboard inside the case. Then after you mount it in the case, you can go ahead and install the video card. TOdays video cards use what is called an AGP port (Advanced Graphics Port) After you slide it in, you have to screw it down. Then you can go and install all your other cards, (sound card, modem, DVD-Encoder card, etc...) Then you have to install your hard drive and soundcard, YOu will first have to take out t...

Enacting a Corporation in the State of Florida Research Paper

Enacting a Corporation in the State of Florida - Research Paper Example These laws are intended to cater for the needs of the people and constitution of Florida. After graduating from college, starting a business corporation would be a great idea to earn a clean living. This essay will discuss the procedures and requirements one is supposed to abide by when enacting a corporation in the state of Florida after graduating from college. As a new investor, it is essential to know the types of corporations allowed in Florida. One type includes a general profit corporation which is owned by stockholders. Another type is Close Florida Corporation which is limited to between 30 and 50 stockholders. The director of the close corporation is required to offer shares to existing stockholders before selling them to new ones. Another type of corporation is a Florida limited liability company, a form of business structure from Latin America and Europe. There are many business opportunities for fresh college graduates. Starting a lucrative business is one such opportuni ty that many college graduates can venture into. Many fresh college graduates have brilliant business ideas. However, these ideas only materialize for the few who are willing to endure the strain that come with initiating a new business (Strauss, 2003). Starting a new corporation requires some information to be created about the business venture. The first and most prominent is the name of the corporation. A name can either be inviting or repelling to potential clients (Strauss, 2003). The name of a corporation needs to be unique and not in use by any other registered body. The name of a corporation uniquely identifies and differentiates it from many other businesses that already exist. ‘Newline Corporation’ has been chosen as the most suitable name for the business that is being set up in Florida. This is because the name is not in use by any other business and it signifies a new development that is coming up in an already existing industry (Barnet & Ronald, 1974). The next step is to create a filing receipt system. This allows constant follow up of any purchases or payments that have been made. It also creates accountability in the use of capital and resources (Kamoroff, 2000). Knowing the amount of money that has been spent at each stage and on what enables an individual to plan for the remaining tasks. It can also be helpful in time management and in evaluating the progress made in starting up the business. A filing receipt system can be used to determine if it is in line with the specification on when the corporation should be up and running (Beerel, 1993). A filing system enables an individual to easily retrieve information whenever it is required. The filing system consists of both manual and automated systems that are labeled under the month and years of their receivership. The most current files should be put at the top. It is crucial to keep a record of the receipts due to tax purposes. Some kinds of receipts that will need to be kept sa fe include unpaid invoices, business receipts, vender statements and client product receipts (Beerel, 1993). At the end of each year, the receipts need to be purged and filed with taxes. An article of incorporation is sometimes referred to as a certificate of incorporation. It must fulfill information as permitted by set laws. A form is required to be filled and filed by the secretary of state (Corporations in General, 1964). This form includes information about the name of
